A further 20-30 minute speedboat ride from Beloi brings you along the north/north-eastern coastline of Atauro, where the reef begins to form more dramatic walls. Reef sections are named after the village or community they sit in front of. The wall dive sites tend to be exposed so expect current and drift dives particularly when diving between tidal changes. There are some shallow tapering sections in Biqueli, Varuana, and Acrema that offers gentler entries, exits and dive plans for the beginner divers and snorkelers. It is worth noting that along the Varuana stretch of reef, sit scattered broken sections of a fishing vessel that had sunk in the area many years ago. Acrema, sitting at the northern-most point of Atauro, is also a popular beach frequented by visitors due to its fine white sand and turquoise blue waters making for beautiful snorkeling amongst the coral bommie formations in the shallow section. Pay extra caution when diving off the deep edges of the northern tip, as currents can be unpredictable.
